I found a dog awhile back, and posted an ad on Craigslist, stating the highway that the dog was found on.

I had a man call me and go, "Yes, I am calling about the found dog... what kind of dog is it?" I asked him what type he lost, and he kept asking what type I found. I finally lied and said, "A black pomeranian..." He goes, "YES! That's my dog!" I said, "Sir, I lied. It's a white chihuahua." His response? "OH! That's what I meant, a white chihuahua!" This guy was trying to claim a free dog, and was a bit more obvious than some others. An hour later, I got a call from the dog's REAL owner, who described the missing dog down to the goofy haircut and a scar on its paw.

Had I posted a photo of the dog, any yahoo could've said that's my dog!

Yes, it takes a few more steps to identify a dog without a photo. But seriously people, think about it. If someone is missing their dog, they WILL be able to describe it to you. POSTING a PICTURE on cl does ALLOW these pets to be identified alot SOONER and replaced back to their families who are very hurt by their absence. Not all persons neglect their pets and yes sometimes dogs will find a way out of their fenced in yards when the family lets them out back to potty or play. This happened to us after having our dog for many years, just one day the door-bell rung and when I answered it the neighbor down the road was holding our beloved little lady. She had found a way to dig through under the 8 ft. solid wooden fence that my husband installed to go downwards into the ground to prevent this from ever occuring, but it happened. We are just so grateful they were honest enough to bring her back. That's the same case as to how these pet owner's must feel too!
