This striking piece is an all-original, gorgeous 19th century Sheraton period "tiger maple" drop leaf table, with wonderful carved legs. This New England table is crafted from a tiger or curly maple with GREAT graining, which results in the "tiger-striping" effect. The table is finished in a nice warm golden amber color that highly compliments the wood.

The table stands on 4 hand-carved legs decorated with a leaf motif -- these are not simply production-turned legs, as is often seen in this period, they are HAND-CARVED. So, this is an upgraded feature on a table like this. This design period ran from the 1st quarter through around the third quarter of the 19th century (1820-70). This table was probably made post-Civil War.
The table retains almost every speck of it's original integrity with NO restorations, repairs or deficits.
The piece is 100% authentic and SOLID MAPLE in every respect. No veneer -- ALL complete and right. Maple is a heavy, dense wood so old tables like this HOLD UP through the years! The construction is very solid and the "tiger maple" appearance really pops.
The table opens into a larger table, when needed -- and the batten mechanism for holding the table open are all hand-crafted and carved. It is all totally original and correct but no makers mark I can see.
