They are part of the Dove family and are generally gentle and easy to care for.
Messages can be attached to their leg. This is known as “Pigeon Post”. You raise and then swap your Carrier / Homing pigeon(s) with who ever you want to send a message to. Each pigeon returns to its owner delivering the note. Young pigeons can be trained to return to your home or loft by pulling a few of their wing feathers. Doing this grounds them allowing them time to become familiar with you and their loft. Once feathers regrow they are able to take flight.
Pigeons do not migrate. Historically they fly about but return to the place they identify as home.
They make unique gifts for you and your children and friends to enjoy. They provide a great way to have fun without the internet and get in touch with nature.
Pigeons can be raised in the city. They are not loud. They make soft pleasant cooing noises that are not disturbing to others. If you do live in a rural area they get along well and can be raised with chickens.
These pigeons have been well cared for. They are fed quality grains and supplements for enhanced muscle development and beautiful feathering.
